On completion delegates will be able to:

• Understand the role and responsibilities of a first responder, including professional boundaries and scene safety considerations.

• Minimise risks to self and others, applying infection control measures and safe practice principles in emergency settings.

• Conduct dynamic risk assessments and scene surveys to evaluate safety and priorities on arrival at an incident.

• Perform a primary and head‑to‑toe casualty survey, identifying life‑threatening conditions and prioritising care.

• Apply triage principles and identify when to summon additional assistance or escalate care.

• Demonstrate effective communication and casualty handover, gathering relevant history and relaying information to ambulance services or healthcare professionals.

• Manage unresponsive casualties safely, including placing in the recovery position appropriately.

• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on adults, children, and infants using manikins, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) correctly and safely.

• Demonstrate use of a bag valve mask (BVM) and associated airway adjuncts for assisted ventilation of an adult casualty.
