ECG Interpretation- For Beginners
ECG Interpretation for Beginners is an introductory course designed for nursing students, junior doctors, paramedics, healthcare assistants, and other clinicians who are new to ECG analysis. The course focuses on building core knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology and ECG fundamentals, guiding learners step by step through rhythm recognition, heart rate calculation, axis awareness, and identification of common normal and abnormal patterns.

On Completion learners will:

Explain the basic electrical activity of the heart and how it is represented on an ECG

Identify key components of the ECG waveform, including P waves, QRS complexes, and T waves

Apply a systematic approach to ECG interpretation

Determine heart rate, rhythm, and axis using standard methods

Recognise normal sinus rhythm and common arrhythmias (e.g. atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, tachycardia)

Identify basic conduction abnormalities such as bundle branch block

Understand when ECG findings require escalation or further clinical review
