On completion of Unit 1, delegates will be able to:

• Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider

• Be able to assess an incident

• Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty, a casualty who is choking and a casualty with external bleeding-including how to use CPR and AEDs

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock and to a casualty with minor injuries 

On completion of Unit 2, delegates will be able to:

• Be able to conduct a secondary survey

• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, joints, muscles, as well as injuries to the head, spine and chest

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds or sudden poisoning

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis and a casualty with a suspected major illness e.g. a heart attack, stroke or seizure.
