Service Description
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Identify different types of stomas and their indications (colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy). Understand the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal and urinary systems relevant to stoma care. Assess a patient’s stoma site, identifying potential complications such as leakage, skin irritation, and prolapse. Implement effective management strategies for stoma care, including pouching systems, skin protection, and patient education. Recognize common complications associated with stomas and demonstrate appropriate intervention strategies. Provide psychological and emotional support to patients with a new or permanent stoma. Document stoma care management and treatment plans according to best practice guidelines.
