Paediatric Immediate Life Support was developed by Resuscitation Council UK for healthcare professionals who may have to manage and treat paediatric patients in an emergency. PILS provides a variety of skills, from managing a deteriorating patient, identifying causes of deterioration and treating cardiac arrest in children, to developing team leadership abilities and finding out what it takes to be an effective team member in a cardiac arrest emergency. A PILS qualification is recognised across the UK and Europe, allowing healthcare professionals to save young lives in many parts of the world.

These skills can be used to teach fellow healthcare professionals in a number of clinical resuscitation courses, including ALS, EPALS and NLS, APLS, ILS, PILs, MIMMs & ETC. This course is a joint collaboration between Resuscitation Council UK and the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) and is an essential requirement for those looking to enter into Resuscitation style education

This is a 4 hour (short course) course that will take place in a Resuscitation Council UK Course accredited Centre. and run by dedicated and qualified Instructors, who have taken an RCUK Instructor course to guarantee that our courses are uniform and the content remains the same across our Course Centres. Pre course preparation: Before your course, you will be registered on the RCUK Learning Management System (LMS). Here, you can access course modules and a pre-course multiple choice question (MCQ) paper. You will receive your course manual before the course. Candidates are expected to read the manual in preparation for the course and submit a completed pre-course MCQ paper before the course begins. Candidates who successfully complete the course will be awarded with a Resuscitation Council UK ALS provider certificate, which is valid for four years and recognised in healthcare settings in the UK, Europe and Australia. This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to become first-aiders in the workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first aid needs assessment. Topics covered The qualification covers knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis.

Target Audience: Healthcare professionals supporting RSI, including anaesthetic assistants, emergency nurses, operating department practitioners (ODPs), paramedics, and trainee anaesthetists. Learning Objectives: Understand the purpose and procedure of RSI. Identify the key drugs used in RSI in the UK, including their indications and contraindications.
